Wed Carp Report

Another glorious day and this time I brought my little fishing buddy. He helped reel in two big carp and had a blast hanging out with me and Joe Bruce (The Bruce). We lost 4 and landed about 25 or 27..at that point you forget exactly how many..

So here are some pics.

As you can see the last pic is bit blurry because Joe did not have on his glasses. LOL
What a great day.

Re: Wed Carp Report

To be able to fish all winter on warmest days and have a quality bite is amazing. I just do not understand why more people do not fish for them. They are great fighters and available year round.
Puzzles me?

Re: Wed Carp Report

I would absolutely target them more if I could catch them on fairly conventional tackle. The ones I have caught in the river, by accident, have been more than a rush to fight and land. Just not sure I can do more than an hour or so (1 stogie) on the bank...

They are the best!! I go to Hains Point year round to target them. They are my favorite fish to catch. Nice work Capt Starret!!

Re: Wed Carp Report

We should do a little write up on "The Bruce". I've been privileged to hear him speak about snakies, carp and many other fishies.  He has written many books and is a most humble (and interesting) man.

Re: Wed Carp Report

Alright, I'm convinced I need to hang out with The Bruce now.  Are these carp fishing trips open for company to join?  I need something fun to do over the winter now that trout fishing is getting harder to do around here.

Re: Wed Carp Report

Are you keeping them?  If so, you eating them?

I've eaten carp in asian restaurants.  Anything's good with enough garlic & chili oil

I was fishing a local hole full of them trying to teach myself have to back reel a spinning rod.

There I was minding my biz, when I gotta bite & landed acarp.  Released it and out of no where this Vietnamese Grandma came up and started yelling at me in her native tongue.  She was all worked up.

I kinda got the gist of her yelling but her grandkids filled me in.

Next carp I caught was a nice one and reeled it in.  I could see Grandma giving me the 'eye.  So walked over and handed it to her, smiled and did a little nod with my head.  I've never seen anyone light up so much.

For a second I thought she was going to give me one of her grandkids as thx for the fish

Hilarious and will never forget it

That is hilarious!  I've noticed when vietnamese elders sometimes talk in their language it feels like I'm being scolded.  I only get this from the women btw. lol.  I can't help that I do love vietnamese food!

Re: Wed Carp Report

I've never had an interest in carp, but I know European anglers will fly across the world to catch them. Seems like a good way to pass the time in Winter regardless.

I've always told guides they should do this & market in Europe.  Complete package - hotel/food/fish

I would have loved to be invited to take part in eating that carp.

In CA, I went to school with allot of people who left Vietnam during the late 70's.  They were called boat people because they were rescued off the Vietnamese coast then taken to Camp Pendleton to start a new life.  One was a room mate and we'd have some of the best food on weekend parties.  All the girls would cook and the guys were outside gambling and talking.  I'd hang with the girls to learn their cooking and get samples of the food.
