7-13-22, Chesapeake Bay

John and I put in at Truxtun Park (Spa Creek) and slowly motored our way out to the edge of the bay.

Along the way, I took my skunk off at the condos.

Lots of sights to see...

...and lots more to see later!

When we got to our 1st area, the water was moving pretty good with an outgoing tide pushed by the current. But we caught fish!

Only "bad" thing was that they were working on the sea wall and it got loud.

We did this run twice and we scored well but it was not like it should have been.

I decided to keep drifting as the wall turned in and we found some wish that were near some beat up wood pilings.

John had the hot stick here and at one point, he caught 6 in a row!

So...it was time to go to spot #2. Yes, we left fish to go find some more.

We went into the lake and hit my favorite cove and it was not on. But we did catch a few.  The water was off color...dingy green. We would find out more later. I

I then hit 2 other spots and while we did catch a couple, it was very disappointing.

There are no shortages of places to fish so I headed over to the radio towers. When we got there, we saw the culprit. A red tide. The dingy green water was an algae bloom. No oxygen around. I was not a happy camper.

Still, we caught a few fish.

We went down to the mouth of Carr Creek and we caught a couple. Then, John gets slammed. He's saying red, world record white perch, catfish....but it was Mr. Convict.

An outstanding battle on UL tackle.

We were starting to get hungry so we went back in to Spa Creek and fished Bob's corner just past the Yacht club.

We caught a few more....but it was slow. The tide had run out.

So we motored back and enjoyed the sights.

Without counting (Quinn the human calculator was not with us), we caught a minimum of 50 perch. That's a slow day in my book but I will take it. I think John kept 4-5 10"ers for his mom.

We were off the water by 1p and off to Ledo's for lunch.

Nice day to be out. Water temps were 81-82dF. It got hot a few times but  a light breeze and plenty of fluids kept us from sweating too much.

Great report!!  It's nice to see folks getting out.  Surprisingly this past week or two has been dead at my marina.  Literally the parking lot was empty.

Great report as always. I hope to get a few perch this weekend. One of my favorite fish to eat in the whole bay.

Boat motors drink gas like we drink water. Plus the vehicles that pull them are usually less fuel efficient. I really believe that the high gas prices are taking a toll. Evey time I fill up...I cringe. I even mentioned to Debbie that I have to rethink how often I go and how far. That's sad.

Maybe it's me Ernie....I just feel like you shouldn't own certain things if you can't deal with the potential prices it comes with.  Distance I get, but owning a vessel is a luxury.

Yep...if you get a BOAT, it comes with expenses. But...most did't expect the price of gas to get near $5. It's a balance.
