Another great numbers outing with CT Campbell!

Greg picked me up at 5:20a and off we went to meet CT at the farm. Got the shuttle done and it was time to splash the boat.

It was a bit foggy, warm and the humidity would rise during the day. perfect fishing weather!

The skunks came off around 7:35a.

Greg's was on top water.

And then...it was game on!

Oh...I forgot to mention that about 20 minutes into our ride this morning, I realized that I had left my new tackle system organizer at home. No way we could turn around and make it down in time so I had to suck it up. Yes, I was disappointing as I had an arsenal in there. Luckily, I was bringing CT a couple of bags of the Zman Coppertreuse drop shot bait that had done so well the last 2 trips. We actually used up 1 bag from fish stealing them or getting hung up. We did go through a bit of CT's jigs.

Luckily, my 3 rods were loaded and ready to go.

This place is just beautiful!

We continued our float and our catching!

One Hour Hole did us good in there. We caught many a fish in there.

At one point, I got slammed and my reel stared zinging! Both Greg and CT turned around as the fish was headed up river. It was a brute but as it always is, it broke off! Yes, I cussed. No clue what it was but it was thrill while it was on.

We continued on down the river and kept catching. Amazingly, we were catching some in really fast and shallow water. It was great.

Next time I spin fish this float, I am going to go just a tad heavier on the jig. Theses fish were eating crawdads from the bottom. The best catching was done by slowly rolling or bouncing baits on said bottom. Might lose a few more but might be able to catch a bigger one. The smaller fish are just too quick!

It's always nice to see these guys.

Lots of hawks, eagles and blue herons out today!

There was a threat of T-storms and we kept watching the radar but we were able to get off the water safely. CT may have gotten a little wet when he went back to get the boat but we dodged a bullet.

Great time catching fish today...

Numbers? LOTS!

Beautiful water there.  Great way to spend a Summer day.  Beautiful sunfish there.  I really like catching those and miss them in our area.  Hope they make a comeback.

Glad you had another great trip. Don't let that place spoil you, there are still smallies in the Potomac.

Re: 7-8-22, 'doah

A couple more things: Towards the end of the trip, it really got humid. We decided to throw some top water and got many hits but only 2 landed. Greg threw a bigger sppok and I threw my Sammie. I would rather have thrown my smaller popper but...Greg can explain why I couldn't.

And yes, I'm a little spoiled with that place but it is  along drive to get there especially for a 7a start.

If things (nature) hold up, the fish will get bigger and meaner. The future bodes well.

Those fish fight harder than the ones in the 'mac. They are always in fast current.

Right where they should be this time of the year - oxygenated water

I was at Cabelas when you realized you left your baits back at home.  I could have picked you up some LOL

Some of the ones we caught were in really fast shallow pebbly water. A big difference between them and the ‘ Mac fish is the girth. The ones from the ‘Mac are fatter. The ones on the ‘doah are lean but mean. They eat a lot more because of the swiftness of the water. Always on the move.

Thanks…would have needed a drone to drop them off!

I rarely use any of CT’s stuff…until yesterday.

Ernie is leaving out a few interesting points....(he is being nice!)
-  Early on, I am pretty sure Ernie had about 20 in the boat and I had about 3.  Final numbers were about 100 for the boat (60 Ernie, 40 Greg).
- Ernie nicely gave me a smaller popper (you can see by the picture how big the Spook was that I was throwing).  I quickly tied it on and cast the Popper off into the distance never to be seen again.  FYI, it broke at the leader.  I owe Ernie another Popper!
- That small Coppertreusse plastic was KILLER!  I swear every cast Ernie would catch a fish.  But it isn't just the bait.  Ernie has the presentation down pat.  For me, it was too small/light and just frustrating.  I never got the hang of it.
- Oh, and Ernie threw just a little tantrum when he realized he forgot his new tackle bag.  But he recovered nicely.
Now that that is all cleared up.  We had a great time as always with CT and that river is fantastic!  Didn't bring anything big into the boat, but that is OK.  We had a great time all day and didn't get rained on.  Although the rain wouldn't have mattered much, because we were all drenched with sweat from the humidity.  It was brutal.  CT nicely positioned us in the shade a few times and that helped a ton.  Can't wait til next time.

Interestingly, the gauge at Luray did not jump too much but it was quick. I am sure it was bad on Sunday at least.

We talked about the storms and were lucky to get out of there with only a few rain drops.
