Mid Chesapeake shallows- last couple weeks.

Kicked off my summer fishing season a couple weeks ago with my usual routine of chasing speckled trout and redfish in the shallows of the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck. The wind has been relentless and the water is dirty so trout fishing has been tougher than normal this year but I'm still getting some good fish. The redfish are less numerous than last year but are running larger than usual with most fish at the upper end of the slot or over. Got into a nice mid-day topwater bite on Sunday and caught some overslot reds and real nice trout. That wasa lot of fun. Caught some quality white perch in the creeks too, they've been stacked up under some docks. Mostly 10-11.5 inchers.

All good there!

That area you fish is very nice. I used to go down that way more back in the day. Fished with Chris Newsome and Tony Harding and a few times in my boat.

Nice looking fish for sure!  What is that long looking fish you have?  I've been looking for homes down at the mouth of the Rappahannock in Weems for a few days now.  Thinking I need to have waterfront.

That's a houndfish. They are incredible fighters in short bursts but also a real nuisance on the flats. They chew up your line and lures and are covered in slime. Oh, and they stink too.

I agree with Ernie. If I could afford to live on the water in that area I would be there right now. Weems is a great location for trout, reds, and stripers and it's just a few miles from good cobia and Spanish mackerel fishing.

hmmmm, need to seriously consider this.  I bought my new build home in 2019 right before the pandemic.  But, now I can make DC money and live anywhere....so why not!  Just need to do the math to make sure I don't hurt myself and maybe find the right home of land to build!
