Greg and I put in early...

...not quite at sunrise but early (for me anyway).

We tried top water at 1st and it was like the dead sea. No action, no little circles around, no hits! Nada!

I contemplated pulling the TM up and heading upriver but it was downright chilly so we stayed put.

Glad I did!

Greg got a couple on top water, including a 14.75"er...

...and had one cast of three hits but no fish.

I had a couple of hits on one cast but nothing to show for it.

Finally, the chill went away and up river we went. There were a few boats out but nothing to worry about.

Greg got one at the back of the eddy that Bob caught one on.

Then...I finally got my skunk off.

I know, my stogie looks bigger! lol

Then we drifted down and I pointed to an area that had been productive before.

Greg gets hit and declares that he has a nice fish on (very shallow water). I then look up and see it roll!

Holy smokes...a beast!

We land it, measure it (20") and then we go nuts!

Greg's personal best!

It took a while for both of us to chill enough to start fishing again. What a rush!

We then headed over to the other side of the river. Everything looked different than when Bob and I went. The river was at 1.7' at POR today vs 2.4' last Wednesday.

We had some hunting to do. The wind had picked up and was a PIA . It was hard to detect hits with a bow in the line. Of course, were were both too stubborn to change to a bit heavier lure. So shoot me...we had fun!

I get hit and brought in this nice 18.75"er!

Greg caught a few more but no pics. He lost one that jumped and broke him off and also had a couple of visual follows.

We saw Capt. Rich Johnson of Osprey Charters and chatted a bit. They had caught around 10 fish but no biggies.

We decided to drift the middle for a bit and we both got bored (tubes and ned) until Greg got slammed with this 15.75"er!

I then get hit and I know I have a nice fish on but I wonder if it's a walleye or a kittie!

I caught one more and Greg asked if I wanted a picture. Heck yes, this ain't just the Greg show!

Somewhere towards the end I made a long cast and was working the bait but had to adjust the boat position. Of course, as I am doing that, I get hit. It's a nice fish as Greg could tell by the bend in my rod. Sadly, while adjusting the TM, I gave it some slack and see ya later. We never saw it. My bad for trying to do too much at one time. Would have at least liked to have see the fish.

We called it shortly after 1p and run downriver enjoying the pleasant temps.

The ramp was not as busy as I thought it would be and we were on dry land in no time.

Lunch was at the Black Hog BBQ in Ashburn. Yes, it was good. Sorry about the lack of a pic.

I had a pit ham sammie that was top notch. I had their greens as well and they were awesome. Greg had a burger topped with brisket (Texas style) that looked incredible. Their fries are excellent as well.

A very satisfying lunch after a very satisfying day. Except for the wind mad

Re: 6-20-22, UP

Took a while to calm down after catching that fish.  A great day all around.  Not high numbers, but all the fish were good size, lit up, and healthy.  The fish we caught on the Ned rig took the bait and shot straight up from the bottom and jumped about 2 ft in the air.  Then is got wrapped around the trolling motor (my bad).  Luckily it didn't break off and Ernie and I got it netted while still wrapped on the shaft of the motor.  Got the hook out and untangled the line.  All was good, but it was a bit "hectic" for a couple minutes.  Definitely a team catch on that one.  I wonder how many fish Ernie has lost because he has to manage the boat, trolling motor, and stogie in addition to trying to catch fish?!?  Luckily he says he is thrilled to watch others catch fish that he put them on.  Thanks for putting me on the fish Ernie!!

Rats…I forgot to post about the TM incident. That fish was pissed. He went around the TM and I shut it off. No way to unwrap it so I gave Greg the net, lifted the TM out of the water and Greg landed it. We were proud of the effort. And glad to get a pic!!

Great job and good use of your rig in skinny water!  I think you figured out where to find some.  Way to go on the PB, Greg!

We were definitely watching the rocks as we went along. Just don't look down! lol

We did manage to get stuck on a rock, briefly, while drifting.
