Full moons and cold fronts be dammed!

John Lipetz and I arrived at Luray Caverns, to meet CT Campbell, just a little late. I had to make a quick stop at Walmart top get some over gasses shades because I had left my sunglasses in the car...in Centerville. But it was just a slight delay. No way I can fish all day without proper spectacles.

What an absolutely gorgeous day to fish. I only whimpered once when we got to the ramp (chilly, for me).

Once on the boat. It was all better than good! The flow was perfect as was the water color.

But, as the 1st sentence suggests, it was slow pickins and we really had to work for them.

Some fish hit on the bottom and some hit on a quick herky jerky motion. Some were on gravel bars and others in holes.  We did not see any beds as it is still too early. I predict the spawn to be around May 15...the next full moon! I will be staying home watching cartoons!

Regardless, we caught some!

We only saw one other boat fishing and 1 guy fishing the shore line. And we saw 2-3 canoes and maybe a dozen yaks (tourists) but they go by quickly.

None of our fish made it to 20" lol

I bet we each caught 7-8 dinkers and then what you see pictured. But they were all feisty for sure. I think that these fish are stronger fighters than what we encounter on the UP because there is so much flow.

This little guy greeted us at the takeout. I was on the lookout for more but didn't see any. These guys are not poisonous but they bite!

It's a long day of fishing for sure. We meet at 8a, and get on the water at 9a, after we shuttle. Off the water at 4:30p. I wanted to take a nap after lunch but there is too much good water to fish.

Looking forward to going back in 2 weeks.

We had a couple of areas that were all shelf across the river. The boat just glides over them. Super comfortable whether sitting or standing.
