Sanibel, FL

So my wife and I figure since we work remotely and our kids are fully virtual, January is going to be awful here and we're renting a house in Sanibel. Of course I'll have to take the opportunity to cast here and there...

I figured I'll be going for snook and redfish and I'll probably bring a mix of hardbaits (twitchbaits, lipless cranks, jerkbaits) and some jigheads with paddletails and grubs. I'm trying not to bring some of the gear which will rust out like spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. Of course I love topwater, so probably some poppers and pencilbaits. Just based on the videos, it looks like inlet areas are good places for bank fishing. I found a place that will rent Hobie peddle kayaks for about $100 for day so that I can maybe get into the mangroves.

Any other lures I should consider? No surf fishing for me, I'd be too much gear to pack.

Re: Sanibel, FL

Sounds like a great plan!! You need someone to cook for you?

I think you have it covered but a quick trip to the local bait shop will help fill in what you might be missing.

Re: Sanibel, FL

Buddy of mine is having an awesome time with the redfish down there now.  He's been throwing them on 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 oz SWM jigs with jointed soft plastic jerk baits.

A SWM bait looks like this

Re: Sanibel, FL

Wow those jerkbaits looks awesome, I'll have to order some for the trip. I have a bunch of Gamakatsu swim jig EWG's that I think I can use..not as fancy with the epoxy over the weight but I think they'll work.

Thanks for the info!

We do have 1 extra bedroom, if you're serious Ernie...I'm sure I can convince my wife if you make a mean Ropa Vieja.

Re: Sanibel, FL

Not epoxy.  Powder paint.

Heat and dip

Or in my case heat and tap
