Doug Errett and I met at the ramp at 0600 and got rigged and ready to paddle but we had to wait a few minutes while 40 big ocean boats headed out of Pirate's Cove to participate in a Billfish tourney. Man they displace a lot of water!
Once they took off we paddled .8 miles to an island point that we knew held some speckled trout..... usually.... when the tide and wind are right. We fished the area for a couple of hours. Doug caught a nice speck on a popping (clacking really) cork.
He also caught a flounder. After switching to his fly rod, he landed a little croaker and a ladyfish.
Me? Nothing!!!
I suggested that we make a one mile paddle to an area that i have caught fish before. As soon as we got there, Doug caught a flounder on his fly rod.
Me? Nothing!!
Finally, I got a hit and brought in a 12 inch flounder. And then I got two more that flopped out of the kayak before I could get a picture.
Around 10:45 Doug needed to get back so he took off for the ramp. I decided to stay to get in a few more casts before the rains came.
I remembered that last year I had caught a nice 5 lb red drum in the area so I started to throw my bait right up against the outside seawall. BAM!! A nice flounder hits my offering!
I got four more in the next 30 minutes or so and then the bite died off.
All I can say is that I'm glad I stayed since this is my best flounder day ever! All of them are swimming to see another day.

I must be getting lazy....have not kept fish.....don't want to clean them so no fish fries this time around.
If I catch anything exiting on the charter Friday I can have the guys at the fishing center clean 'em for me.

I hear ya!
Three of the flounder were barely legal but if I had caught a doormat, he may have gone in the cooler!
The spanish macs have moved away from shore....huge surf today so that may change things!
Can't go fishing tonight....celebrating oldest son's engagement!!
