It was Quinn's birthday yesterday and he had requested another Wicomico River fishing trip. I was happy to oblige. So he and his dad, John, joined me on the treck down there.
One of the things they really liked about our trip last year was my stories about Carl (who showed me how to fish for perch). For Carl, WP fishing was a process so we did the same.
1st thing we did was stop at the Chaptico Deli for their sausage breakfast sammies. You get a CHUNK of home made country sausage, an egg and cheese on potato bread. It is good!
Sadly, they did not have bread pudding but after I shed a few tears, they promised to have some if we would check back later.
Once our bellies were full and we had some snacks aboard, we went fishing.
It was about 8a when we launched and I immediately went to the dock next to the ramp where Quinn and I got our skunks off!
John did the same a couple of minutes later.
Once we got our game on, we moved to the 1st honey hole...but no bites.
The next stop produced some fish including this monster!
We went to a very fishy area and we all scored.
We then made several moves and we were steady catching.
John had a big lead for a while but Quinn and I were catching up.
I think we had 10 triples for the day!
And probably 25 doubles....do the math, they are starting to add up!.
Most fish were caught on 1/8oz spinners, with chartreuse being the favorite. I caught a couple throwing an XR-4 (a very tiny jerk bait). And a couple on an in-line spinner with my X-Light bait-caster.
We then went to Mrs. Wolf's cove but other than the 1st stop, it was dead. So back out we went and fished a shore line that I bet I have not fished in over 20 years.
We started to catch a a bunch.
This is where I introduced the story that happened 24 years ago when my oldest son was 12. His buddy, Mark Davis, joined us that day and we proceeded to catch 295 WP! A record that was tested a few times. Once, Curly, Bob and I got over 200 on the Severn. Many coming from 1 spot. Another time, on the Wicomico, Jimmy, Kevin and I managed 225.
But today, the numbers just kept piling up.
We caught fish everywhere. We knew where they were hiding. While we did not get any 10"ers (I really don't expect any on this river), we finally set a time limit to stop (1:45p) and the final tally was 4 stripers and 315 white perch! A new WP boat record!
This grin says it all!
For the day, John finished with 111 WP, Quinn and I both had 102. John had 3 stripers, Quinn had one.
What a day!
We finished it of with some very good southern MD fried chicken back at the Deli and I was able to get some bread pudding as well.
To say that it was a very satisfying day would be a huge understatement!
Carl would have been pleased....

Awesome looking time on the water, catching always beats the heat.

Very nice trip. I remember that trip with you and Bob on the Severn, and a bunch of those were jumbos. You will have to hit Anna with me in the fall when the WP are schooled up with the stripers.

Excellent report.. thanks

It really wasn't bad out on the water (water temp was 85df) but once we got on the ramp to put stuff away, we were drenched!

Jumbo's are hard to come by on the Wicomico and yes, I would love to jig up some perch down at Anna.

I just hope they are in full force up at the Severn and other areas we also fish for them.
