I was going to get out yesterday before the rain, but iffy forecast and fatigue kept me home. I thought I would possibly get out this morning (last minute, no real plan) and ended up going around 8:30am. The water was still pretty clear, with a green tint and some debris mixed in. There was some fog on the water and it looked like it could ne a good morning. I decided to float half an island while waiting for the fog to clear. The water was showing 58 degrees plus. I tried several different lures before realizing the bite was tough and I was going to have to use finesse tactics. It got tougher when the sun came out. I finally got the skunk out with a 13"er on a ned head and TRD finesse tickler.
I caught a couple dinks and a fallfish that was about 11 inches.
I ran up river and ended up not catching anything mid river or near the MD side. I decided to float the same island back and take advantage of some shade on the bank. It started to cloud up and I started getting more bites. First one was an 18"er that I think I have caught before. It had a sore on it's jaw and it was blind in one eye.
I lost a couple that bit, but I could not get them pinned. I finally caught another one that was 15 inches and fought well..
I missed a couple more bites. Next was a nice 16"er that I think I had hooked and he got off. I cast back and hooked it.
The afternoon bite was much better after the clouds came out. The water was looking a little more stained, but still green. I did not pack a lunch, so headed out by 2pm. No issue taking out which was good. I caught 8 smallies plus the fallfish. Ended up being a decent outing.
