Upper Potomac 11/1/18 Day 3

I had not planned to fish 3 days in a row, but the weather and water were just too nice to skip it.  I had not been sleeping well, so between that and the prior 2 long days of casting and working baits had me fatigued.  I was dragging a bit in the morning and just did not have my regular mojo going.  I saw Ernie and Bob at the ramp.  The last 2 days I passed a lot of deer heading to the ramp.  None today, but there was a fox that crossed the roan in front of me.  I was on the water before 7:30am.

I decided to start at the ledge that I lost a big one at yesterday.  That turned out to be a bust, so I made a long run up to my favorite island to float.  I tried a jerkbait, but there were more leaves, making it difficult.  I was using a tube and a swim bait mostly and it was 9:20am before I got my first bite.  the fish got off.  I finally caught a 14"er about 9:45am

A little while later I caught another strong 14"er.

And then a 13"er a while later.

I talked to Ernie and they had caught at least a dozen fish.  I lost about 4 rigs between snags and bad casts.  I ate my sandwich and saw Ernie and Bob run up and they started floating below me.  The wind picked up and was blowing a lot of leaves in the water.  I was getting tired and frustrated and was considering calling it a day early.  I floated to a deeper rocky section and was throwing a paddle tail swim bait on one of George's SWM jigs.  I threw behind a wood caused eddy and I got a hit.  I set the hook and felt a strong fish.  I did a second set to make sure I did not lose it and the fight was on.  It went around the boat and back and I was able to get it in the net.  It was 19.5".  I was super pumped and almost shaking.

That obviously brought me back from the brink and I continued to work the shoreline.  I missed a couple fish and the wind was getting harder, blowing lots of leaves into the water.  I decided to stop using the drag chain and just float with the current to finish out the island.  I was not getting anything, but hitting the good looking spots as I floated.  I finally got a strong hit near a tree and it turned out to be a chunky 16.25"er.

I floated a little more, but the leaves were just getting too bad and I figured I better end the day on a high note and 5 fish total.  I stopped and said hi to Ernie and Bob before getting off the water by 2:30pm.  Great week of fishing.  One thing of note was how hard the fish were fighting today.  Water temps were in the mid 50's and air temps were mid seventies.

Funny how a little adrenaline rush perks you right up!

Nice chunks to end the day...

Not only did I beat you to the ramp (by seconds) but we outlasted you out on the water   tongue ...I guess it takes you fishing 3 straight days to accomplish that! wink

Time to go fishin' again!
