John, Quinn and I decided to start late as we did not want to be wet at launch. Rain stopped around 9:00a so in we went.

Water level was dropping (maybe 4.6' when we started). Air temp was comfortable. Water temps were 61-62df. No wind until the end.

We got no hits at the tip of the island so we made the move upriver, looking for cleaner water.

We drifted the clean water shoreline but it was slow. Still, we picked up a few.

I think I had the biggest at this point at 14.75"!

Plus a duck decoy!

Then Jon got a nice 16'5" fattie!

We then moved up to XX but the big tree that broke off is no where to be seen. might be down by Colonial Beach by now. The water was dirtier, high and ripping. No bites so we went back dow river knowing that more rain was coming.

This is where John decided to change lures and he tied on a Sabile square bill. Before that, we caught fish on unweighted flukes and belly weighted swim baits.

It did not take long and John declared ha had a fish on. One jump and I quickly went for the net. It was a hog. As  it got close to the net, it did a 180 and took off running again!  Finally, John was able to control it and get him close to the net so I could scoop him up.

18.5" of fight!

Before that, John and I were tied at 3 fish each. Quinn had 1.

After they started throwing the cranks (identical models), John got the slob and 4 more and Quinn picked up 2 more.

Me? I stayed with my normal stuff and got no more bites.

In Cuba they would have called me a cabezidura!

We then made a few more drifts in different places with no hits. We were wet and tired so we called it around 2:30p.

I really expected a better bite especially on the shore line but maybe they were all deeper as we found out late in the game. The crank was the deal for sure!

We worked hard for our total of 13 and we had a blast.

Toiday's lunch was Popeye's dark and spicy!

Time to go fishin' again!

Looks like a great time! At least you caught some fish despite your hard head tongue

Together we'll fight the long defeat.
