9- 29, 30-18, Starrett Pointe weekend

The crew (Ernie, Greg, Bob & George) got to the Pointe on Friday afternoon...well, except Greg who had to fly in from up north and got in @ 10:30p.

Before dinner, Bob and I went down to the dock to see about the monster perch that may hang around there. We each caught a few but they were all on the smallish size. We like them 10" or more for eating.

So we came up (getting attacked by huge skeeters on the way up) for a really nice fondue dinner that Capt. Mike prepared...

...been a while since I ate some fondue but this was good!

Breakfast was at 6a the next morning so after a little bit of story telling out on the deck, we all hit the rack to get a few Z's.

Saturday morning was chilly (for me anyway) but beautiful!

And no, I didn't let go of the rope!

We had drawn for partners and Captains so George and I fished with Capt. Dave while Bob and Greg fished with Capt. Mike. The lack of pictures from Capt. Mike's boat is a mystery.

So here are some fish that George caught....

George also caught a huge bowfin that we had to the side of the boat. The fish was lit up and shook off the boga grip.

I had one bowfin on that did a tarpon jump and then spit the hook. I also had a few other fish come unbuttoned before being able to get them in...frustrating!

We came back around 2 pm...

This was dinner...

Around 4:30p, we went down to the dock to o get on the Mako and chase some specks!

We caught around 40 of them with Bob being the big winner with the most and the biggest. I'd say we had 5 or so keepers but they all went back.

For Sunday fishing, we redrew and I was paired up with Greg on Capt. Dave's boat while Bob and George went with Capt. Mike.

Sunday morning was just as spectacular!

And the fishing was decent!

Early on, I lost a very nice bowfin that torpedoed past me and turned on a tree stump. Gone in a nano second.

Later, Greg caught a really nice one but had a little too much pressure on him (too much fish out of the water) as Capt. Dave tried to boga it. But we saw both up close and they were great fights!

I got a couple of pics from Bob and his nice bowfin...

Tired but satisfied!

One of the coolest things about the Dragon is the variety of fish. We caught LMB, bowfin, white perch, warmouth and pickerel (Bob did). One year, we caught 7 species in there. I must confess that I like catching bowfin the best!

This was one of the coolest things I have ever seen!

And later, as I was catching up to them again, I met of of VA's finest State Troopers....

After I took the pic of the dog, I caught up to them again. Then I accelerated briefly to get another look and got nailed. No clue I was over the limit. I bet it was for only 500 or so yards. Oh well....

I met Gloucester's finest last year, and although they are very kind folk, I made sure I did not introduce myself again this year.

The fondue was a nice treat this year!

He was very nice...I should have showed him the dog/bike pic with the Police Matters flag and told him that's why I sped up.

I'm surprised you didn't since you love sharing stories!

Great report and pics! Pretty cool how you can go upriver to catch bass and bowfin, or go downriver to catch specks.
