Again on the way to the ramp (5:50a), I get honked at while at the light. It's Curly again, on his way to get coffee I bet....

Unfortunately, Herman and I got a much later start than what we wanted...the sun was wanting to come up fast!

Herman was throwing a fly (no takers but a few hits) and I had my trusty jerk bait which scored 1st!

I also got a small BG on a tube of all things!

I switched to the whopper plopper and got no hits...except when I just let it sit in the water while I was adjusting the boat. But...it came unbuttoned quickly.

Herman then went conventional and we each got a few hits but no takers.

So upriver we went. The water looked decent and you could see bottom in the shallow areas (<3').

I got a 12.75" fighter...

...and a bit later, I caught his twin. Same exact size. Herman and I measured a few just to test our eye. We were close most times.

Here, Herman got his 1st smallie...of the year!

We then hit some shoreline and I was able to connect with a 15.5 incher.

Herman got a little one on the fly which was cool.

Our last drift went slow until Herman got hit with the blackest of smallies. One jump and see you later. A few minutes later, he hooked up again and I thought he had bottom until it moved. But...he became unbuttoned and lost it. I think it would have been big fish of the day.

For the day, I caught 6 smallies and a BG. Herman got 3 smallies.

We were off the water by 1...although it did not seem as hot as Tuesday, as soon as we hit the parking lot, it was like an oven!

Ha! If it would have been 16", it would have been the fish of the day but we never saw it. Either a nice fish or a moving rock or log.
