I got out early to beat the heat and there was a beautiful red sunrise that my phone did not capture well.
I started with a Whopper Plopper, but got no bites. I figured they may want something a little more subtle, so I changed up to a chug bug and got a healthy 14+"er that jumped 3 times.
A couple casts later, a long 17.5" smallie slurped down the chug bug. I ended up with 3 smallies and a LM before moving on up river.
I tried some shallow riffles and rocks by an island and got maybe one or two small fish, I moved upriver and decided to take advantage of the shade. It was muddier on the MD side where the shade was, but I managed a few, including a chunky 16"er on a shallow crank. I caught one more on a chatterbait and then I just slow drifted with the drag chain. There was a nice breeze that really helped keep the temps manageable.
I was just picking up fish here and there. One on a spinnerbait, one on an in-line, a few on different cranks and several on a small plastic bait that was a grub-minnow hybrid. I ended up staying longer as I would run into little patches of fish. Most were in the 12-14 inch range, but fun. I ended up with 18 smallies, one catfish and one sunfish. Off the water by 3pm and was getting hot. Nice day overall.

Good day out indeed! It was nice this morning and there was even a breeze....I wish I had gone today instead of yesterday but that's when John could go.
We gotta go find the big gals again.....

Yes sir! I hope the rain does not mess us up too much. Keeps things interesting, trying to figure out what will work in different conditions,
