Upper Potomac 7/9/18

I got out early and it felt like September with a temp of 59 and fog on the water.

I decided to start with a whopper plopper not far from the ramp.  After about my 4th cast, I hooked a solid fish and tugged it hard twice, but it still jumped and threw the bait.  I did some more casts, but no bites, so I moved up river.  I took a picture before leaving.

The fog was very impressive and I had to take a couple more pictures while running up river.

Shortly after that picture, I had a nice smallie slurp my whopper plopper as it was drifting without me reeling.  It was a little over 15", but chunky and had both hooks in it's mouth.

I tried more topwater, but no more hits after the sun got up.  Water was stained to green and bites were sporadic and not easy to find.  I finally got some along shore mostly.  This dark one chased down a crankbait.

I caught 8 bass, 1 catfish and 2 sunfish before Ernie called me in the afternoon.  I had just caught a nice smallie that I think was the same one my grandson Emerson lost on Saturday.  It swallowed my tube, so I had to do minor surgery (out through gill) and I was reviving the fish when it shook free before I could measure it.

I caught a decent smallie on a craw right after I hung up with Ernie.

I ended up catching a 20" catfish after that on a swim bait near a rocky shore.  It had the hook in both lips and I did not get a picture.  Overall, not a bad day, but I fished until 5pm and did not catch any more fish after the catfish.  I was trying to get to 10 bass, but no.  Very sunny and warm to hot afternoon.
