Last Minute Trip 4/27/18 Tidal Potomac

I got a call from Hookup at 8:00pm on Thursday night to fish on Friday.  I guess he thinks I don't have a job or anything.  I said, "it's supposed to rain" as I checked the forecast and saw it was ending by 9:00am.  So we agreed to go to our tidal spot at 9:00am.

It was cool and drizzly when we got on the water, but compared to the main river, the water looked great.  Water temp was up too, so I was very optimistic.  Well, nature has a way of keeping us humble.  We fished all day and only caught a few.  George caught 4 LM and a decent crappie and I caught 4 LM, lost another at the boat and had a little yellow perch on a crankbait for a minute.  We saw lots of fish.  Mostly carp (spawning?) and shad jumping.  I saw a couple snakehead jump before we got the boat in the water, but we did not get any to bite and saw no more during the day.

We forgot the lip gripper and hawg trough to measure, but turns out they were really not needed.  Here a few of the fish we caught.

I caught one on a chatterbait and kinda hooked a yellow perch on a crankbait, but all of the other fish were caught on various soft swim baits.  Thanks for the call, George!

Had a great time even though the fish weren't that hungry.  John & I figured there's so much food in the water now with the shad running, that the fish are eating well.  That's our story & we're sticking to it.

We did see a guy catch two carp back to back - we figured the guys was using dough balls.  Carp jumped on them as soon as they were in the water.

Thx again John for being able to fish at the last minute

Fishing instead of work? That makes for a great outing regardless of the results!

Together we'll fight the long defeat.
