After icing up and recovering from yesterday. I got to bed early and was up and ready by 6:00am. Got on the water about 6:25am and was the first boat in. Really nice morning in the low 60's. I decided to just use the Trolling motor to get to my starting spot, I threw the Whopper Plopper and after a while got this strong 15.5" smallie.
It was good to get the skunk out early with a decent fish on topwater. I floated down a bit and decided to anchor above a ledge. I threw the Whopper Plopper up to the area, but decided to throw a Chug Bug for the first cast. I threw it just above the ledge and popped it once and a big smallie jumped out of the water and took it down. FISH ON! It was a large fish, but I did not know exactly hoe big until I got it in.
I measured it and it was 20". Second C-class in two days and both on topwater! I was pumped! I revived the fish for a second and she swam off strong.
The fog rolled in heavy and the wind was blowing upriver. I thought it would help the fishing, but it was pretty slow. I worked the ledge over good and managed maybe two small ones on a grub. I started floating and caught maybe one more. I noticed a second ledge down river a bit, so I set up and anchored again. This time I threw the Whopper Plopper and a big smallie jumped and attached the lure, but just missed for a hook set. It was the exact same pattern. you only got one shot though, and I missed her. I worked the ledge over good and caught two smaller fish on the Whopper Plopper and went around to work the back side. I got one or two little ones off the back with a grub. I probably spent over two hours on those two ledges before moving on.
The fog started to clear and I caught a couple on a grub and one better fish on a swim bait. Maybe 13+"
I fished for a little while and then ate my lunch before deciding to run up river. The sun had come out strong and I hadn't even started the motor. I ran up and the water was very low and clear. There were a bunch of people out (fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking) and I see a very strange site. Two ladies swimming down the middle of the river between me and a couple other fishermen. They must have been training for a triathlon. Very strange for that area and not very safe.
I ran up and tried a speed craw in a small SWM jig, The water was really clear and I could see everything. I somehow ended up catching two little ones before deciding to head in. I got back about 1:20pm with maybe 11 fish total. The ramp was open for once, which was a nice ending to a beautiful day on the water and my last hurrah before surgery.

Two 20's in two days? I'd say that's a pretty good last (for now) hurrah!
