Photobucket Scam?

Is it a scam that Photobucket is telling everyone that it will cost $400/year to post on 3rd party site?  Looking into it...........

Re: Photobucket Scam?

Sounds a little fishy to me that they would try to pull a stunt like this........no one is going to pay $400.  I'm betting that they got hacked and it is ransomware related...........

Seems to be all over the interwebs.. that change in terms and the email scam from supposedly "them" that sends you to a look alike site and gets your log in info. From there they hijack you into paying money.

Not a scam.  Pay up or just host your pics you use on forums elsewhere.

Re: Photobucket Scam?

I had no problems loading pix on forums this morning, but their new terms & conditions says no third party hosting

Only problem was wading through all the advertisement pop ups

Re: Photobucket Scam?

I've used photobucket to host hundreds of pics for the last 10 years. All gone sad

Just switched to a site called postimg.org. It's much faster than photobucket and isn't completely overrun with ads, so maybe this was a good thing.

Re: Photobucket Scam?

So far, I am still in. Luckily, I have all of my pictures saved (by date) on my PC and external drive.

But will try postimg.org if it's faster.....

Re: Photobucket Scam?

I still have all my pictures saved in other locations too, but every one I've ever posted is now just a broken link. Really bugs me cause I like to go back and look at old reports sometimes.

Agreed....they got real greedy and no advance notice.

Re: Photobucket Scam?

My pix are still up on FB, RS, and here

But 3rd party hosting is in their new rules so expect them to be down soon.  Oh well, I have everything saved but have used PB for so long it'll be a shame for them to get greedy.  That's how companies go under

Re: Photobucket Scam?

I've always felt uneasy about photobucket due to the ridiculous amount of ads. Highly recommend http://imgur.com/upload

It's a very trusted and efficient image hosting website.

Re: Photobucket Scam?

I decided to just dump Photobucket and go to Flikr (a Yahoo offering).  Seems to be free, unlimited storage and works with the standard formatting.  No one knows where Yahoo will end up but I thought I'd take a chance.  This is my girl, Ginger, as she appeared in the Reston Times.
