Father's Day with Daughter #2

I got an offer to fish with my 33 year old daughter #2, JJ.  So of course I took her up on the offer as it had been at least 15 years since we fished together.  Warm, muggy, but cloudy morning.  Started out hot with the Whopper Plopper scoring early and often.  I ended up with 10 on the Whopper Plopper and JJ was catching on swim baits.  She had to get back by 10, so we were out a little over 3 hours and she caught 6 Smallies.  Here are some pics, including a 17"er that I broke the treble off trying to get the hook out.  After the picture, I forgot to remove the treble in it's jaw.  We named him Mr. Hookface, the fish.

JJ is a Personal trainer and Assistant Manager at the Gold's Gym in Herndon.  She is a busy mother of my 2 Grand Daughter's who were with their Dad.  I dropped her off and continued to catch another 10 or so Smallies up to 16".

Great Father's Day!

Re: Father's Day with Daughter #2

Smallies were very active and hitting baits aggressively.  They were in packs it seemed.  When it got hot, I found a hole where they were stacked up.  I lost about 5, including one that broke me off.  I lost another bigger fish and JJ had one break her line as well.  First time with the Whopper Plopper and I am impressed!  I caught more fish after losing the rear treble (not needed in my opinion).

My WP have single hooks but I only used it a few times.

They were not active early for us but they did get happy later.

Re: Father's Day with Daughter #2

I tortured all of my daughters dragging them out with me from time to time.  2 of my 3 older daughters enjoyed it eventually.  My eldest does not like it (incident with yellow jacket nest near a creek) and my youngest goes once a year with me.  Luck of the draw.  The key is making it fun for them when they are young.  I was not good at that and really just wanted to fish myself.  Make it fun and keep it short is the best advice.

This is good advice. I would take my boys fishing with me, so that I could fish. that is a NO NO! Take them fishing for a bit and lengthen the outings a bit at a time. If they get "hooked", then you will be able to go fishing with them. Part of the experience is looking ofr worms, wading, goofing off etc.
