Lower UP 6/17

Finally got around to checking out the area around the American Legion bridge.   I made it 3/4 mile upstream of the bridge before working my way back.  A deep gorge runs from there down to about 4/10 mile below the bridge, it averages about 60ft deep with some even deeper holes.

Only caught a few fish but two of them were decent.  There was a low overcast the whole time which was nice and might have been a factor in my first catch being kind of shallow.

Finally a keeper walleye, about 21".

And a 16.5" smallie that really didn't want to be caught.

Nicely done....a 16.5" smallie out muscles a 20" LMB every day of the week and then some. Heck, a 13 incher fights harder than most LMB.

Time to go fishin' again!

Firetiger Bomber A is my go to for the UP.  Caught all my fish with it.

The walleye sure tasted good tonight.  Got enough for tomorrow night too and a whole other filet for the freezer for now.
