Vero Beach 6/7-16/17

Went to visit Dad in Vero Beach and it was a great trip.  He lives right on the Indian River and I fished as much as I could off his dock.  Caught a nice Snapper the first day on a swimbait.  Caught Jacks, Snapper, Blowfish on live shrimp.  Caught 2 Grouper (baby Jewfish), 2 big Gafftop Sail Catfish (cool), Ladyfish and snapper on soft plastics.  Caught 3 Jacks on topwater (see pics) and lost a nice (maybe Tarpon or Mackeral) fish with it.  Had 3' and 5' Bullsharks go after and once almost breach swiping at it.  I had a big Tarpon follow and then a big shark (different kind) breach maybe going after tarpon?  Lost 2 big fish that broke my line (maybe large Jacks).  Very cool sightings of Manatees, Porpoise, Sharks, Huge Tarpon and daily Pelicans.  Brackish water, but more on the salty side.  Some fish and topwater lure with teethmarks.  I caught this topwater when fishing with Ernie.  I changed out hooks after having hooked fish bend out original hook.  After I lost that fish thrashing at the top, I shook the lure and huge shark breached, taking a swipe at it.  Sharks active evenings and early morning.

Pictures are in reverse order.  No seeums ate me up, so I kept covered.  Had 30 bites just on right hand and wrist.

Got to see Navy Seal museum and Kennedy Space Center, which were both awesome!  Great Trip and 92 year old Dad is hanging in.

Manatees right under and in front of the dock.  I really needed heavier gear (pole and leader) for some of those bigger fish.  I just used 20# floro leader.  I had 60#, but felt that was too heavy for the majority of the fish and thought it would kill the action on the topwater.  It has a really loud rattle and was attracting those sharks from far away.  Gafftopsail catfish were about 5 and 7 lbs. (maybe more) and both bit jigs with grubs.  Lots of pilings right in front of the dock for fish to break you off on.  That was the most frustrating part.

Great pics of the manatees. Are those mangrove snapper? If so they have some really vibrant color.
