5/17 & 5/20- Buzzbaits, Flukes and a Big One

Took a morning and a full day off this week. I love the post spawn time when the fish come up crashing buzzbaits. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get out for weeks and I wasn't sure if the fish were already transitioning out to deeper water.

Tuesday was rainy and cool with light winds and I had quite a few fish come up and eat. I probably landed about 7 or 8 total but nothing big. Here are a few I captured on the GoPro. http://youtu.be/cGSN5ptl6wI

Friday I had the entire day off and it was a beautiful day on the water. The buzzbait bite was slower but I did get a few including this one that went 4lb 4oz.

I had several other fish on weightless flukes in the morning. I also found a few aggressive small fish deep in the back of one cove later in the day. Here's a few samples.

I spent hours trying to find the fish in their transition points between the coves and deeper water and aside from one or two short hits on a jig, I did nothing. I was ready to head home and I decided to fish one more spot. I had no hits on a jig or crankbait so I decided to fish a weighted swim bait that I had good luck with last fall.  On my 3rd cast I hooked up big. It felt like I could barely move this fish off the ledge it was on. When it finally came up and I saw its head I started to get really nervous. Talking to it from that point on I convinced it to not jump, not come off the hook and please get in the net. ;-) While it wasn't the 8 lbs that I originally thought it was, it weighed a very respectable 6lb 12oz. Her tail was bruised up from the spawn and she was actually pretty thin. After weighing and taking a pic she easily swam away. She will be over 8lbs later this year.

Great jo!  Those are a bunch of nice fish and a beautiful hog!

I just watched the video.  That Beaver was awesome.  You had some nice action and missed a couple big fish, too.  I was just going through my buzzbait collection yesterday, tinkering and getting them ready...

Thanks Ernie, I do ok.

If Troy "The Shimmy" and Brian "Plan B" ever move back to the area it would be quite a shoot out between the 3 of us.
