For the first 5 years I winter fished, I got my waders on a deal and by season's end, they got a hole. Nothing like freezing cold water seeping into your waders.
About 8 years ago I bit the bullet & got a pair of SIMMS Guidewear ... still have them today and they are still as dry as they were the first time I wore them.
My Cuz fishes cold about once every 3-4 years and these would be perfect for him, but if you live in your waders during the cold months, I recommend buying something a little more durable.
