Very sad! Taken from a drone??

I am sure we will need to restart the fish population there when the water level comes back to normal. Some of the fish may survive.

I ran across this video, not sure if everyone has seen it or if the author is a member on here, but the fishing in the vid compared to the current state of the reservoir is incredible.

WOW...impressive. Clearly that must be a different Beaverdam than the one I've fished the last 2 years. Or else I'm even worse at catching nice bass than I thought...

That's Troy/Shimmy in the video. I think he moved away from NOVA, he may have been a member here? He spent a lot of time focusing on Beaverdam, and was not interested in catching small-medium bass. Not that anyone seeks to catch small bass, but his approach was what I would call the opposite of tx fishing and very much in line with the gospel of Bill Murphy.

Very cool video. Those fish were in there. I caught a few big ones (including a MONSTER 26" LM), but I was not into the slow & low approach. Just makes me mad to see what it looks like now.

Some of the gang (Simon, Thai, Andrew, Khahn & Jeremy) fished Beaverdam one day (I was with them) and they were hunting for big fish....
They caught them! Impressive display of talent!

Paul N. caught many bigs there as well!

And of course, Brian (plan b), was a BDR master!

Lastly, I am hopeful that this place will become a prime fishery once again, cared and maintained by a professional organization (NVRPA).

MudKart - can you explain the "tx fishing" and "gospel of Bill Murphy" references. I assume the first is catching anything you can and the second is only going for big stuff. But I never heard those references before.

Tx (tournament) fishing is dedicated to catching 5 (or 6) 2 to 3 #er's and hoping for a kicker fish or two. In most txs, that 18-20 #'s for 5 fish will win or place. "Big" bass fishermen eschew such tactics, and rather focus on catching 0, 1 or 2 "big" fish, considering 3 #ers dinks. The belief is that Tx tactics (e.g. "power" fishing in relatively shallow water) are not an efficient way to catch 8# and (+) bass.
The link below explains Bill Murphy better than I can here, and I highly recommend reading the book.

And, Beaverdam is (was) an excellent local place to apply the structure fishing tactics explained by Murphy (who was riffing on Buck Perry).

Thanks Mudkart. That was an even better explanation than I expected! Plus, I know have a good book to read.

I've got a video that I think most would find really interesting. Contact me via email and I'll send the link.

And the dam area is off limits except to employees. Only a few have access to that part of the scenic waterway.

Is it possible to get access to that drone video? I would love to explore and take mental notes on the landscape before it gets filled up again.

I know this is a LOOOOOOONG shot. But, wonder if Loudoun water would allow local concerned water enthusiast to place fish structure(s) while it is drained. May spin it to "aide in the recovery of a healthy aquatic environment" type of thing.
