Bob and I needed to get out of our funk so we went after white perch.....one week after Mo was skunked in the same area.
We tried the cove 1st and there were a few taps. Finally, I hooked up with a decent perch but he came unbuttoned....the funk was still in the house.
Then we tried the Deale jetty and had very few nips....but Bob scored a nice perch!
We then tried an outflow of a creek and he score again but it was not picture worthy.
We then headed over to the honey hole and on the way there we stopped at a few fishy places and got no love.
The weatherman had said 5-10 from the NW and he was right....the NW part. We had over 10 and conditions were sloppy especially for the honey hole. I must have used 1/2 of my battery trying to keep Bob in the zone but he scored with a nice 11" perch and a fat but deformed striper.
He also caught a couple of more but I was still in skunk funk....
We decided to try the Holland Point shoreline as it was better protected but nothing happened there. Then we went deeper and further out but nothing happened there either.
You are kidding right?
I then told Bob we were going to make a run. He said, "OK", so we went.
We were getting bounced around a bit but once we figured out the conditions, we had a target to shoot at.
"FISH ON"...that was me yelling and this nice 11 incher came aboard!
"It is well"...that's what came to mind. The world is now OK!
Bob and I proceeded to catch a bunch more, several in the 10 and 11" range.
Then....I got a bump and then a run. Striper?
Nope...just this fat, black back perch that went 12 3/4" to tie my best ever!
Bob and I caught a few more and then it was time to head back. Bob caught the 2 stripers and we caught 18 or so perchies between us.
We did stop at a few places that hold fish but they were not home.
The ramp was full and busy. One boat was so weighed down with water (they had a leak) that the truck pulling it could not get up the ramp...spinning tires, leaving rubber on the pavement.
Once we got going, we stopped at Big Dave's for BBQ. Bob had pulled pork and I had brisket. Hmmmmm good!

Congrats Ernie. Tieing your best is a good way out of your funk. Its the challenges that make you appreciate the successes that much more.

And....that big perch is still swimming!

Next time you catch him he will be 13 inches!

Wow. The perch fishery has stayed strong on the Bay these last couple of years. Hope we don't do anything to break it!
