I had to get out and try my luck on the "Dead Sea" (aka Burke Lake) after all the rain blew out the rivers. I waited until the pavement was dry and left around 11:30AM. I stopped and ate a sandwich and then headed for the lake. The afternoon was nice with air temps in the 70's and passing clouds with 5-10mph winds. I went to a cove where a creek comes in and tried several different lures until a nice 16"er hit a custom made balsa wakebait.
I was psyched to get the skunk out and tried that bait for a while longer before moving on. I went to the next cove over which was a little clearer. I tried several lures until I decided to skip a tube to shoreline cover at the back of the cove.. This 16"er hit aggressively as the tube stopped moving.
I tried this along the shore and got this nice crappie on the tube.
I worked my way back to the first cove and continued with the tube. After a couple smaller fish and a miss or two, I got another nice 16"+.
I decided to try something different as I got toward the back of the cove. On about the second or third cast with a white chatterbait, I caught my biggest fish at 18" and FAT.
You can see the end of a tail in it's gullet.
That was it. Seven in all and any time I catch fish there I am happy. Last two trips were skunk-o.

Thanks. My last few trips out (anywhere) have not been as good. All fish were shallow and pre-spawn.
