George Thurston (hookup) an I have been trying to fish together for over 2 years. Today we finally did it and we were joined by Greg and Tyler Folts.
George is a river rat, plain and simple.
We met up at State Park....
...and got ourselves ready for a 5 hour float (well, no one wanted to get off the water so it was extended by 2 hours).
All I kept hearing today was, "fish on"! I have no idea how many were caught but it was a lot!
Here are some epics (I am sure that Tyler and Greg have a few others)....
Absolutely spectacular stretch of the river.....
.,...and I think George knows every ledge and rock!
A little cow action....
Back to fishing!
we all caught quite a few very yellow blue gills!
V
George chilling out....he landed this one but lost a very nice one in here!
I was fishing close to George when I got slammed hard....really hard!
After a few seconds, I knew it was not a smallie but it was a beautiful channel cat!
Finally one on the spinnerbait! I caught most of mine on a fluke (weighted hook) and some on a tube.
George and Tyler had a field day! Perhaps they will chime in later....
What a great way to spend this holiday.
God Bless America!

Just got a few more pics by email....
George had told Tyler that there were some LMB in a creek so Tyler had to go find out...

Is that Guest State Park? That's where I started fishing. I used to go wading there all the time. It's a beautiful stretch of water. Nice fish guys!

Back to work now. Tired & sore from being on the water all day yesterday and the day before that. Definately have bass thumb.
Thanx for all the pix, brings me back to the good times of yesterday while sitting at work.
I was on the same river both Sunday & Monday and both days were different as night & day.
Sunday, the water was cloudy & stained, and running higher. Wind was up and it was chilly. Fishing was work - did good, but had to work for every fish. Spinnerbaits & minnow imitations, like flukes & jerk baits were the ticket.
Monday was wide open. Bites on every other cast, plenty of fish for all to catch, clear water, and comfortable weather. Note, I'm wet in all the pix and was still comfortable. 99% of the fish I caught was by dragging tubes across the bottom of the river.
Good meeting you Greg & Ty. Glad to see Ty catch his personal best. I knew he would on that streach of water.
Ernie, after years of planning glad we finally got to wet a line. Let's make sure we do it again sooner this time.

That was a great day of fishing! George you are a master of that river. Thank you for teaching me a few of your tricks. I was getting skunked until you gave me a few of your homemade tube hooks. That did the trick. It was great meeting you and I know Tyler and I look forward to fishing with you many more times!!
You were so right that the slow bump of a tube on the bottom was the trick. After figuring that out, it was fish on! Interesting that when it started to rain a bit, the spinnerbait bite turned on.
I only had the one day on the water and my shoulders are SORE! It is a great feeling.

Looks like a great trip. I was out on the Rt. 7 bridge on Monday - high water, stained and cold as heck! That was the toughest fishing I've ever encountered on the Doah. Amazing how different the conditions were for you guys further down the river.
