goose creek 15 to evergreen

Brother and i ventured out in the canoe to explorer the western part of goose creek.  We put in at crooked bridge road up off 15 and coasted down to the evergreen mill crossing.  Absolute waste of time.  Water is 1-2 feet in most areas, very few fishing holes.  mostly flat sandy bottom with not much action.  4 dinks all day.  5-6 sets of rapids that was inches deep.

Re: goose creek 15 to evergreen

I am dying to try the Evergreen Mills to Sycolin (and Goose Creek Reservoir), but I can't figure out any way to do it because there is no access from Sycolin.  Glad to know about the upper area to 15.

Re: goose creek 15 to evergreen

Sycolin to the reservoir is what I want to do.  It would take several of us going to make it easy.  My idea is to launch on the Reservoir Rd side of Beaverdam.  Paddle to the dam and then slide/carry the yaks down to the creek which is where multiple people come in helpful.  Especially on the way back up the dam.

Looks to be a winding 1.8 miles or so from Beaverdam Creek to Sycolin.  And then lots of unpressured (I would imagine) water.  Probably deep too and packed with fish that get washed downstream but not over the Goose Creek Reservoir dam.  Plan for a whole day.

One day I did try carting my yak to the Beaverdam dam.  It's less effort to paddle the distance, but only a little slower, maybe.

Re: goose creek 15 to evergreen

I think we need to try it once (at least).  Need some hearty souls.  How deep is the creek from Beaverdam to the Goose Creek Reservoir?

I once did from 50 down to the dam.  Long float, good fishing, nice variety.  Huge l/m

Gotta do it when the water's high and watch for strainers.

Re: goose creek 15 to evergreen

for awhile my brother and i put in at watson road.  we would float down to sycolin and get out.  however, the property owner on the southwest side of the creek/sycolin intersection is not too fond of people using his land to get to the road. havent found a good way to get in/out.  I havent found any good way to get into the creek on the potomac river side of the dam....

i have great intel on the stretch from Beaverdam down.  I was asked to keep it close to vest - if you want it PM/email me and i'll send it along ..... i just ask that you keep it off message boards / "in the family" as that is what was asked of me.

Re: goose creek 15 to evergreen

Thanks Houli. Access to that area is tough, but it does get pressure and poached. I posted about the spear fisherman before.

I can't do anything in May, but will organize a float in June that is an easy in and out and have a BBQ after fishing.

My Daughters is getting married memorial weekend. I will look at a few Saturday dates early in June.

The stretch won't be able to handle a lot of pressure, but if we work together everyone should get some good fishing in. I will pm those I think would be interested.

A tree laying across fast water. Strains you from your boat.

Re: goose creek 15 to evergreen

Not a problem fellas and congrats to the father of the bride!

I'd love to join but I have a busy couple months as well .... certification exam June 1 and a my son is due mid-late June.  I'll have to see how the wife is with the kitchen passes in early June.  I think she may have a baby shower to attend June 9th ..... so that may be my only shot at a full day fishing.

That would work for me.  Though I may try to get out there before then too should conditions permit.

Cut my teeth dropping a jon in at the Dam behind the water plant and using the trolling motor to go up.

Is the Dam parking lot still closed?

Not sure but 9/11 took care of fishing that water from a boat launched at the site....

Re: goose creek 15 to evergreen

I can host a float Saturday June 8th. We can park at the Kayak/ canoe launch and return when done. It is below BDR
and you can fish up or down. You could paddle to the reservoir, but it is too far for me. Lunch at the cabin afterwards to swap lies and stories.

PM me and I will send directions

Jeff
