Chesapeake Bay, 8-18-12

I got to go with Capt. Carl again today to do some roaming around the bay. His buddy Lee was with him and we met at Happy Harbor and out to the bay we went.

They were calling for rain...not. But they did call for wind and waves and we got plenty of it.

On the way across the bay in the Everglades 24 footer, we were met with steady 2-3' seas with lots of rouge 4 footer in the mix. In my mind, I was high tailing it back to port but this boat can more than handle what was thrown at us.

We made it to Black Walnut Point safely and on the 2nd pass Lee took the skunk off the boat with a juvi striper.

That type of action continued for a couple of hours as we were making near perfect drifts every time. We decided to make a move to try to find a keeper. We went up to Poplar and found fish in several locations.....the FF screen was lit up but we could not get them to bite. We threw soft plastics, bucktails, metal...you name it. At one point, we found a nice tide line. Clean water on one side and murky on the other. Lots of fish....but only one skinny blue to show for it.

We had caught 30+ stripers but one over 18". We needed one so back to BWP we went and it was low tide and barren.

On the way back across, we saw this big container ship streaming up the bay. We were moving at about 27-28 kts in 2-3 footers and he was moving fast as well and pushing a ton of water!
