I left Ashburn Village at 6 AM in order to pick up Jim Rekas at 6:15 AM and get to the Gravely Point boat ramp by 7 A. yep....those were the plans but it seems it got a little chilly overnight which caused the streets to ice up which of course, caused a ton of wrecks. There were two serious multi car accidents on Waxpool Rd and two more on the Toll Rd. By the time we got to the ramp, it was past 8:30 AM!
But who cares.....we were going fishing. The goal was to try to beat Curly's 30 incher (striper) which he got on the last day of 2006!
It was foggy and cold with a bit of SW wind but we were bundled up properly!
We started trolling and actually marked some nice bait marks but we got no hits at all.
After a few hours, we were getting antsy and then Jim told me to look behind us. There were a ton of birds circling.....
......I had never seen this before in DC! It was quite a sight and brought our confidence level up.
But.....there were no hits on our spread (3 rebels, 1 small umbrella w/ 1/2 oz buck tail/curly tail and one deep diving crank bait. We were skunked on the last trip of the year!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!
Is that a lure behind the rock in the 1st picture?
That is an amazing site! In the drought of 1999 (I think), I took my Tahoe down there and did some 4 wheeling....cracked the running board in the rocks! I don't think the reservoir was this low.
If you had gone down there in your truck after 9-11-2001..........we would probably have read about it in the newspaper headlines............"Cuban terrorist caught at local resevoir!"
