Cinco de Mayo on the Potomac!

Mo stole the show!

But before we get to that, Dan and I got on the water at around 10 Am as the tide was going out.

Target: NSH

We headed back in to the shallows of Pohick Creek and started tossing frogs and top water weedless baits. I got the 1st blowup and the anticipation grew. I was never able to get the hook near the fish's mouth. We then ran in to Rob Snowhite who was doing some fly fishing on his drift boat. Forgot to take his picture.....

We drifted in and out of the creek with only a few taps for little fishies.....

Was the super-moon messing with us?

At around noon, Mo called and announced that he was close to the ramp, as I am talking to him, Dan gets nailed and i see a NSK do a tail-walk! Outstanding!! But....he threw the hook. Dan was deflated....and this haunted him for the rest of the day.

Now we get Mo and see Curly at the ramp. The tide in now getting low (low tide was at 2:30) so we decide to hit a few docks. Mo is ready!!

Right before hitting them, we found a hole with some rocks and Mo hooks into a nice one on his favorite chatterbait. The fish comes up, shows off a big head and spits the hook. Now Mo is haunted.

A few minutes later Dan took the skunk off.

Nothing else there so we headed over to the flats and joined 27 other boats....

Mo gets nailed and lands a nice blue cat. The 1st of three in and around the same spot.

All of them were violent hits. But we caught no bass.....although we did see a friend of mine there. Here is Kyle Hoffman with a decent bass!

So we move on in to Pomunkey Creek but found nothing there except for Mo's channel cat!

It's now about 2:30 and I decide to turn the VHF on and they are talking about some storms moving in. We hauled back to Pohick so we could be close to the ramp. We wanted another shot at NSK but the water was really low.....really low! We may have had a few taps but nothing was going there. Then, we started to see some activity in the water. Wait, that is rain and it's starting to come down pretty good. It cooled us off and we headed back in the barn.

Great time with Mo and Dan, no shortage of laughs!

Re: Cinco de Mayo on the Potomac!

That tide was low enough my boat had trouble. We got two  nice largemouth on Clouser minnows. One big pumpkinseed on a foam bug and some small bass on a large bass bug. Birding was great too. A tree full of egrets was beautiful.

Forgot to ask, how do you think Pohick would be as a kayak destination? Is there a decent amount of cover near the launch or would it be a pretty long paddle?

It's a perfect place for a kayak. Go left in towards the pads and fish away! Not far to paddle at all....
