Lake Mercer 4-7-12 and Bass Pro

I came home for Easter and fished Lake Mercer with my boss, which is located by Burke Lake.  It is quite a hike with the kayak.  I really wanted to catch a fish in NOVA as I failed three times a month ago on the Occoquan.   We fished the stump field for a while and he caught a yellow perch.  Then I started to work a bank.  I caught a 6" bass, then a 12" bass.  I then hooked into a 6+lb bass on  a small swimbait.  It was just a little over six pounds and was 21 inches.  He was really fat.  I then caught a 1.5lb bass.  My boss caught 3 small bass a lost 2 big bass, one of which I saw him lose.

I just uploaded these pictures to so I thought I would share.  A couple weeks ago we had a booth at the Spring Classic at Bass Pro and we got to do a few tank demos.

Finally some points for kayak wars.  It would be nice if they start allowing shad so I could submit a bunch more.

I used to fish there 15+ years ago. I hooked a few chains in that lake, they all broke off. Once I started to chase them with a leader I never landed one.

nope, gotta drag your vessel a good distance to get to the water from where you can park.

Re: Lake Mercer 4-7-12 and Bass Pro

Awesome fish....where do you park when you go? I tried finding this place a while back and my navigator took me to a cul de sac and said I was at my destination. Could not figure it out at all. Looking at google maps it seems all residential around it.

Is it worth fishing from the bank. I have tried Huntsman a few times (I can pass it on my way into the office) and haven't had much luck but i know there are some big ones in there but all the reports i see are from people with kayaks or canoes.

Feel free to Pm me if it to be kept secret or feel free to tell me to buzz off!

Thanks!

Hooes Road.  There is a little gravel area to park, but get their early or it may fill up on a weekend (was full when we got off).   You will see little car on the gravel patch I am talking about directly off the road on google maps.  We then hiked all the way up the path to where you see the townhouses, then go down the hill through the woods into the lake.

You could fish most of it from the banks.
