Four Mile Run

Caught my first nice bass of the year at four mile run. Also hooked hook with 2 carp - one almost completely spooled me before breaking the line and the other spit the hook on a jump. I can not wait until I actually catch one.

Re: Four Mile Run

Try for one of those carp with your fly rod and then.......hold on!

Re: Four Mile Run

Nice Bass!  Those carp are a lot of fun to catch.  It's like a runaway train.

Re: Four Mile Run

Thanks, I was floored by how strong they are. I have caught 20lb stripers on 8lb test without having them break off. Definitely a different feeling with the carp compared to everything else I caught. There was no shaking or thumping - just felt like my line was attached to a winch except when the one jumped out of the water.

I now have a 4 wt and a 7wt fly rod - Is the 7 wt too small for carp? Any suggestions for flies?

Re: Four Mile Run

Nick- the guys at TPFR can help with the flies. You should go to one of the Beer Ties and have some guys tie some up. I would like to know what works best as well. A 7wt will work but you will need to play the fish....for a while.
