Had to go to Chicago for work on Friday and return on Sunday. Hotel was about 1.5 miles from the harbor, so I walked down Friday afternoon. I did not take a rod, thinking there would be no fishing opportunities. Walked down a while and met this retired longshoreman named Joe. Talked to him a while and he said he was coming back to the same spot on Sat morning. He invited me to join him and he'd bring me a rod to fish with. Got there before daybreak and fished with a crankbait with no results. Changed over to Salmon roe and I caught 2 king salmon. The first was about 10", but the second was 5 pounds.
Joe didn't catch anything, but I gave him the 5 pound salmon.
Got to fish ......and catch fish, even though I had not planned to. Always a bonus........and my first king salmon .

Bonus is right......that was nice of Joe to lend you a stick. He got back a nice gift in return.

Congrats on your first King. There are some hard core fisherman in and around those harbors and some great fishing if you time it right. The big brown come in the spring, then coho, then Kings, then ice fishing for yellow perch.
PS you look like everyone esle in Chicago "cold"

I haven't seen too many pictures of salmon with high rises in the background, that's pretty neat. Nice job!

And I think you just motivated me to submit a salmon report.
