Deale, 9-30-11

Bob Morgan and I went fishing today. And yes, we caught some fish...lots of fish!

It was also gratifying because Bob just had surgery and was able to get out to whet a line. Back in February of 2009, Bob took me fishing right after my surgery. Today it was 75, the day he took me was 25! But it is all good!

The plan today was to try to find some large perch to help me move up in the standings for the SRRKC White Perch tourney. When we got to the fishing spot....

....I almost wanted to run across the bay but my WP instincts took over and we started fishing at the wall. And we started catching. Today, they were fat! They hit on fast, slow and medium retrieves. They were close to the wall and away from it. Here is my 1st 12 incher.....

.....Bob was steady catchin'!

Striper

Since Bob had just made a Bass Pro Shops run, he was loaded with lure and caught a lot of fish with a lot of different offerings. Conversely, I caught most of my fish on one lure, made by Woody. It all works!

After a bit, I told Bob of another fishy place that Mo and I tried but on a bad tide. Today, the tide was right.

Bod nailed a fat perch......

Bob must have caught 12-15 stripers including 2 keepers.

But this one was nasty!

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj320/Kiko13PB/007-25.jpg

I caught a blue and a speck along with many perch.

Once the tide ran out, the place got shallow and we went back to the original spot where it was slow. There was another boat fishing there and they caught a few but not much was happening as the tide was slack.

Bob asked me why I didn't work the rest of the wall and I told him that during the low tide, it's too shallow and there are no fish there. Oh yeah, Bod declares, "fish on!". We worked all the way down and back up and picked up many a fish....

....which included another 12 incher.

This guy almost ran aground...

I'm not sure how many perch we kept but Bob's neighbor is going to be eating well this week.

Our day was gorgeous, especially considering we have some colder air moving in. This could be my last WP trip this year, I will definitely remember it!

As of right now, I stand in 2nd Place for the SRRKC Tourney. Woody is solidly in 1st Place. It will take a couple of 13 inchers to unseat him......

Those 12 inchers were nice.  I spent the day in the rain today cooking 95 pounds of pork BBQ for the church picnic that is tomorrow.

Here are the standings with 4 days to go (ends Wed.):

1st    tacklemake (Woody)    40" ( two at 13.5" and one at 13")
2nd    kiko13 (Ernie)            36" (three at 12")
3rd     J.P. Williams              35.5"
4th   rsd612                     35"

This is last year's final tally:

1st     tacklemake              38 7/8"
2nd     TrickyRicky             35 1/4"
3rd     J.P. Williams             35"
4th     RodsGirl                     34 3/4"
5th     kiko13                     34 1/2"
6th     rsd612                     34 1/8"
7th     attml                     34"

Next year, we should get a few more in the game. It's a $10 entry fee, 2+ months and perch can be caught anywhere in the bay or a tributary.

I think I see where we went wrong, it's the shirt. Woody has a SRRK shirt so the perch know who's fishing. Also, he darkened a few more numbers on his board, though 15" is wishful thinking. We had a great day regardless.

This isn't winter, it's the end of pleasure boaters and the true start of fishing season. Can't wait for the first frost then maybe 2 months of Indian Summer.

Re: Deale, 9-30-11

SRRKC Tourney is final....places stayed the same.

While 2nd, 3rd and 4th were separated by just an  inch, Woody had a 4" lead over 2nd Place. I find that incredible and....humbling.

Not too many folks that love WP fishing like Woody....Carl was one of them.
