Delaware Fishing 8/20-8/23

8/20
I started in my kayak at CHSP and the inner wall looking for flounder. I caught a bunch of them, but they were really small. I've never seen so many 12-13" flounder, it was nuts. I only caught maybe 3 that were 16" or more, and no keepers.

There were also a bunch of croaker around at all the usual spots, and they were between 10-15". I fished from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Caught everything on various Gulp baits.

Oh yeah, there were also plenty of small toothy fish hanging by the pier.

Did the same thing again on Sunday, with the exact same results. Bunch of very small flounder, with a couple over 17" and no keepers. Lots of croaker and a small stingray rounded out my catch.
Typical size croaker, with a messed up tail. No wonder he didn't fight hard.

I tried to catch some spot or snappers for live bait, but I couldn't catch any the right size. I can only catch those ones when I don't want to.

Made a brief stop at the canal that night, but the no see ums drove me off before I could do much fishing. Gawd I hate those things.

Jumped aboard the Thelma Dale IV with Esquired. We spent the day drifting for flounder and it was pretty slow all around the boat. Opposing wind and tide made for some tricky fishing. We each boxed one keeper flattie and a handful of ling, and Dave had one seabass as well. We used jigs and flounder rigs tipped with strip baits. Oh, and there were no mahi on the bass pots.

I rode out to IRI that night and stayed for about 25 minutes. There were some small blues crashing under the lights on the south side. I caught a couple and headed out.

Spent a couple hours on the beach at CHSP and caught a few very small kingfish and bluefish. At one point there were birds crashing right off the shore but I never could tell what they were chasing. A pod of dolphins came through and that was the end of it.

After that I stopped at Roosevelt for about an hour before heading home. I caught one TB flattie and this guy.

The water was really dirty at RI. Seems like for the last few years it's always that way.

I did shoot some video from my kayak on both days but it might be a while before I can upload it. Not really sure it's worth posting though, since the fishing was pretty lame.

Re: Delaware Fishing 8/20-8/23

I have some friends that fly fish (wading) the park for fatties earlier in the year and score well. Have not heard any reports for this year though.....

Time to go fishin' again!
