8-27-05, Potomac River (Lower) report

John Sexton and I went out of Shamansk's at 8:30 this morninig, winds were calm and it was raining light but steady. The goal for the day was to catch enough big white perch to make a meal or two. As soon as we came out on the Potomac, there were birds everywhere and breaking fish. I was NOT prepared for that!  We quickly got out the ammo (light tackle & rattletraps) and started casting. We caught 6 stripers in 10 minutes, all about 15-16".  Just as soon as there were so many birds, they left!

It startetd raining harder so we motored up to Swan point to get some perch. Up came the big beach umbrella (yea...funny looking but effective) to keep us dry.  We caught 100+ perch and kept 12 that were 8.5 to 10.5". The bonus was that we caught another 15 stripers on rattletraps or beetle spins....all on 4 or 6 lb test!

Oh yeah, we also caught a little kitty (the fish type).

Nice day (it had been a month since I was down there) on the water once the rain stopped but when we headed back around 2 PM, the SE winds kicked up and started to kick our butt. Tide going out, river flowing down and wind coming up. Fun day!
