3-19-10, Potomac River Report + Maiden Voyage of the Tracker

Originally, Patrick and I were going to fish the NHBA Tournament on the cooling pods at Lake Anna. However, since I just got the new boat, we decide to stay closer to home and fish water that was more familiar to us.

So, we met up at my house at 0615 this morning and off we went to Gravelly Point. Curly joined us as well.

We splashed the Tracker for the 1st time and we headed out on the main river. It looked fine but the wind made for drizzly ride. The boat handled very well (after I got used to it) and Patrick took over the trolling motor when we got to the Spoils. We were going to try Blue Plains first but the wind was a pain.

Not too much happening at the Spoils, We saw several others trying their luck but no takers....except this guy.

OK, not a keeper but it was the 1st fish from the new boat!

We then headed downriver but the wind just kept pounding us. We did fish hard but we had no more luck. Back up river we went and decide d to get into the Washington Channel and fish the outflow of the Tidal Basin but the gates were closed and there was no current. Just as we were going to give up, the gates opened up but the fish did not bite. We trolled our way out of the WC and even made some cast but we were ripping out of there with a falling tide and a gusty wind at our backs.

Curly did manage this shell fish, well just the shell anyway.

I am very satisfied with the new boat's maiden voyage. Patrick and Curly would ask me questions about the boat and I would just look at them as say, "1st time for me too, no clue how that works". We got it all figured out.

The boat fished three very easily, has lots of storage and was very comfortable running 30 mph in 1-2 footers.....I like it!

At least it wasn't total bust.  Seeing the wind today I didn't feel to bad about not doing any fishing.

I needed to get back early so that was not an option....

Anna is way ahead of the rest of the area since it's so warm there.....sounds like you did well.
