5-1-05, Potomac River (DC) report

Today was opening day for stripers in DC waters so we gave it a shot. Put in at noon (nice and early) and trolled for a bit and wham! The 1st striper of the day! Was it legal? Nope....too small at 15".

We then tried to get the big ones on cut herring. We caught 8 channel cats and a couple were close to 10 lbs. Not bad! We did see a few keepers (between 18-36") being caught by a few anglers.

On the way back, we trolled again (we were using 7" Rebel broken backs) and we caught another striper. What the world is a 9" fish doing hitting a 7" lure? To add insult to injury, a few minutes later a 6" herring hit the rebel. THAT....I have never seen!

We had a great day on the water but it was windy!
