Put in at 6:15 AM at Gravely Point (Reagan National A/P) and headed up river to Fletcher's with a bunch of fresh herring. It was slow going through the DC waters as all the crew teams were out practicing early this morning.
Curly and I fished our behinds off for several hours and all we could get were a bunch (14) of channel cats from 1-5 lbs.
Another friend (Mike Bailey) was out on one of Fletcher's rowboats and was bringing in the stripers like there was nothing to it. They don't call this guy the river rat" for nothing.
Finally, I hooked in to a nice 14 lb. blue cat on 17 lb line. Nice 15 minute fight!
We thought the bite was over at noon and SLAM, a huge hit! John managed to get the 13lb, 33 inch striper and no harm done...right back in the water.
I am still striperless (my boat isn't) for the season but man, I am having fun catching cats!
