8-19-17, Cedar Lake monster bluegill report

Fished a new way tonight, new to Cedar Lake anyway. I had a rod rigged up with a clacker (clacking float) and a red lead head jig. I tipped the jig with a Gulp shrimp ($1 each!). This is one of the methods we were catching speckled trout in the sound down at the Outer Banks a few weeks back.

As soon as I world throw it in, I would feel the tall tale peck, peck of a blue gill......so I set the hook and in came the 1st of three blue gill that all were close to 1 pound! I wish I had brought my camera down; they had neat coloration with yellow tipped fins!

I am going to shorten the line and go a little lighter with the jig head and try for bass and/or channel cats. It's been 2 years since I last caught a channel cat in the lake (9 pounds!).
