Re: sharks in the potomac!

Been very low flow and salinity has been moving up the Potomac from the bay.  I've heard of blue crabs in the grass beds around Mt Vernon.  Maybe Capt. Mike can confirm the crab story?

Re: sharks in the potomac!

Many years ago, on the Wicomico River, Carl and I thought we saw a shark but didn't tell anyone out of fear they would think that we were nuts. I told the guys that story today while fishing.

Re: sharks in the potomac!

Hmm, with the salinity levels up to the point where crabs are in DC, that may explain why the snakeheads have been up the creeks this summer.

As Fosybear once said and I quote "A bears natural habitat is a Studebaker"

A snakehead thrives in thin water..

Re: sharks in the potomac!

The salinity really has no bearing on how far a bull shark will venture up a river. Bull sharks have been caught in the Mississippi River as far inland as Illinois and one was caught in Peru, east side of the Andes Mtns...2,500 miles from the mouth of the Amazon River!
