This is one of my favorite outings of the year. This year, The NoVA CCA entered three boats. My crew members were Carlos Maceo and Jamie Gold. Dave Post was on Rich Redler's boat and George Lenard fished with Tony Hughey.
Carlos and I had not fished the tourney since '06.

More on the Tidemaster saga later.
Last year, Dave Post took 1st in the Fly division; he fished solo on his boat. Tony Hughey finished 3rd in the Fly division, he was on my boat.
We were on the water early and headed on down the Narrows and on to Eastern Bay. I knew that I would fish 20-30' water on one side of Tilhgman Point or the other. We chose the east side and there were a few boats already working a drift. I could see why, the fish finder was lit up. BTW, it stayed lie that all day.
Jamie took the skunk off the boat fairly quickly....
...and we ran in to Tony Fiedrich with his crew. Twelve year old Colton is seen bringing in a nice striper!
I then took my skunk off with a little one but a few minutes later, I got nailed hard with a really nice 26", 6.7lb beauty!
I fought this guy on a 7' St. Croix Tidemaster (Med. Moderate) baitcasting rod. What a trip fighting this fish on this type of tackle. I had a huge bend on the pole. My crew members did a masterful job of landing the fish and we now had a fish to weigh in. Things were looking up!!
Carlos took his skunk off with a little guy but on a fly!
So who is at the wheel?
Well.....after as few more fish, things got really slow. I mean REALLY SLOW!
Nice boat.....
Finally, after a couple of hours of not catching, Jamie nails one and we are back in business!
But we never did manage another keeper. Now...for the rest of the Tidemaster story. At one point, I was throwing a 1/2 oz jig and as I was casting...SNAP!
Eastern Bay claims a 2nd Tidemaster from me. I couldn't believe it. The guys felt terrible for me but I will send St. Croix a few $$'s and they will send me a new rod. I am good with that!
For the day, Jamie had 2 fish, Carlos had 5 and I had 9. It was a spectacular day on the water with two outstanding guys!
Oh....I almost made it into the money with my fish. I finished in 4th Place in the LT division.....the top two guys were fishing with Charter Captains so I felt really fortunate to be right there with them!
The Kent Narrows CCA guys did a great job with the tourney (as always)....1st Class all the way!

And now...the REST of the story.
The rod I broke was bought in 2002; I bought it 1-2 years ago used. This rod carries a 5 year warranty so I was outside of that. I sent St. Croix a crisp $50 bill and they sent me back a brand new 2010 replacement!
What I like this rod is its whippy action once a fish is hooked...just like a fly rod!

Gotta love that St Croix customer service! They took care of me when I snapped my Avid in the trunk of my car a few years back.
