BC (Brian Colbus) and I had high expectations when we set out at 0615 from Gravely Point to fish the Fletcher's area. We were to target white perch and shad as hoping to also catch some herring. IF....we caught the herring, we would then also try for stripers and blue cats. Plan was set and we were ready to go.
But....something happened on the way to the fishing area. BC has a banana!
What in the world is he thinking?? On most charter boats, he would have immediately been thrown off the boat! While I am NOT supersticious, many folks fear the banana. Check out these links:

Anyway, we fished hard and finally BC got a nice hit and brought up a very nice 19" Hickory Shad. That is one big Hickory! Normally, they are smaller so I was feeling good that our fortunes wee about to change. I took a great picture of BC and his shad but it managed to erase itself from my digital (bananas anyone?).
Well...we kept fishing and not catching. We ran into a good friend who had only caught 1 decent striper so I was starting to worry about our beloved Potomac. Lots of fly fishing guys were catching shad but most others were not catching.
Where are my white perch?
The water clarity was down from the rains of a few days before and the current was a bit brisker than normal. But it was a gorgeous day on the water and I will be back.
As always, BC and I had some great laughs despite the banana.
