Went up to Fletchers's area around 2pm to see if that stretch of the river is starting to get "fishable" again. There were not a lot of boats fishing there, only five or six of Fletcher's boats were out, plus a few others.
Current and debris were not too bad. The water was still a fairly low visibility type murky, but it wasn't zero visibility... so we decided to try fishing sabiki rigs for a while... which ended up being over 4 hours.
We caught 16 Herring (and lost quite a few that fell off when we tried lifting them from the water), 1 White Perch, and an Altantic Needlefish (snagged, not hooked in mouth).
The herring ranged from 9 to 14 inches. Took them home to freeze for use as bait on future catfishing trips.
Couple of the larger herring

wow that needlefish is bizarre! Is it common to catch them in the P'mac?

That might be a houndfish....incredible that you caught it way up there. Maybe there is a spawning run we didn't know about?? I have caught one in the mouth of the Pax river and one at Swan Pt., just above Cobb Island.
Nice job on the herring, we could have used a lesson today.

If you do a Goole search for "Potomac Needlefish" you can find references to "Atlantic Needlefish" having a spawning run in the Potomac.
