bait casting reel?

looking for my first baitcasting set up i found that i liked the st croix mojo bass rod or something like that.  I read somewhere that it was the same blank as the avid rod so i guess that is good.  the only problem is that I need a reel for around 70 that will preform nice.

Re: bait casting reel?

Why pay $69.77 when you can multiply your budget times 10!

It come complete with a citation bass, all expenses paid trip to the lake of your choice....but no humility whatsoever...none...seriously....who buys these?!

Re: bait casting reel?

I heard the Mojo Bass rods use the same blanks as the Premiers, not the Avids. They are the same blank as the Premiers but they are dressed up with split grips and a funky purplish color. I don't think they could sell the Mojo's for $60-70 less than the Avids if they used the same blanks.

As for a reel: I would suggest a Citica E as a good starter reel. I have a Citica E and it is fantastic. Another option is the BPS pro qualifier. I don't own one but I have heard a lot of really good things about them. Both of those reels are a little above your price range but I think you will realize the benefits of investing a little bit more in a good reel. BTW, the Pro Qualifier is on sale right now for $80

Re: bait casting reel?

It is the same blank as the premier, SCII

as for reels, I've got three around that price range that I can recommend based on my experiences;

Diawa procaster tournament 100 BL
Pinnacle Inertia Finesse
Abu Black Max

Re: bait casting reel?

I've had no problems out of my black max, very smooth and pretty light too

I don't have too much use on it yet, but enough to know a bit about it
