So…we went fishing on Friday the 13th! No problem….as it is a special day; the Navy’s birthday (I served from ’72-’78) as well as my own birthday!
John Sexton, Curly and I put in at 8:30 this morning at Gravelly Point. It was quite chilly and the forecast called for a windy late morning. We set out across the river over to the Washington Channel and we were off light tackle trolling!
On our 1st pass, Curly put a nice 19 inch striper in the cooler! Will it be a good day?
A few minutes later, John reeled in a 2.5 lb large mouth bass.
Of course, we can’t make it complete until Curly catches a cat fish (it seems that he always does even in saltier water).
After a few throwbacks, I finally managed a nice keeper and to the box he went!
We caught fish on almost every pass we made and the final tally was 15 stripers of which 9 were keeper size (we kept 6) along with 2 large mouth bass and the one channel cat.
To top it all of, the Air Force was practicing for their AF Memorial show on Saturday and we got to watch it twice! Spectacular!! Lots of new and old planes as well as incredible acrobatics!
It was a great day and one I will not forget any time soon!!
