9-28-08, new club record established at Roanoke rapids!

Charlie Taylor sent this report to the members of the New Horizon Bass Anglers Club.

History was made today at Roanoke Rapids Lake. While Anthony Vining was fishing a Zoom Horny Toad over a grass bed along the channel edge, a fish busted through the grass and inhaled the toad. He waited a few seconds and set the hook. The fish buried in the grass and he and Joe Padilla proceeded to try to dig it out. At one point, they saw the tail and Anthony started shaking. They continued digging the fish out of the grass, netted it and placed it in the livewell. At this point, Anthony was suffering from hyperventilation and had to sit down and allow his heartbeat to return to normal. In his words, "I was no good after that".

At weigh in, the bass was officially weighed at 8.4 pounds. It measured 25 inches long and 16 inches in girth. A truly beautiful fish.

The previous record bass for NHBA was an eight pound fish, caught by Frank Harrington on the Chickahominy River back in the 1990s.

Roanoke Rapids Lake has been very good at giving up large fish for our club members. In addition to this 8.4 pound fish, Jack Wallace and Preston Crum each had 7 pound fish and numerous 4-6 pound bass have been weighed in. This, however, is only the second 8 pound bass caught in one of our tournaments in over 16 years of operation.

CONGRATULATIONS, ANTHONY VINING, ON A BEAUTIFUL FISH.

Time to go fishin' again!
