Late Morning Outing 8/29/23

I was going to go out earlier, but I could not get to sleep until late, so I slept in.  Got on the water around 9am. Nice cloudy day.  Disappointed to see a large oily sheen all along the shoreline.

Took a while to get bit.  I moved quite a ways and finally got one on the little popper.  Chunky 14 incher that I did not get a good picture of.

A while later, I got a 12 incher on the same bait.  No pic of that one, but nice green color with the clear vertical bars.  That one got me in a weed patch and I had to wait for it to free itself before I could get it in on 6 pound test.

I got maybe two more swipes/hits from fish after that, but none hooked.  I picked up a little trash before leaving around 11:30am.  Lunch at Chik-fil-A.

Good job. Nice to know you don't need to be there in the middle of the night to be successful.

Yeah, it is not as critical to be there at 0 dark thirty when it is cloudy and not so hot.  Water is super low, but I saw 2 jet boats getting around.  The later sunrise makes it easier as the Fall approaches.

One did.  He went downstream.  There was another guy in a big black boat with a pointed hull and big engine.  He looked like a guide with clients, and I have seen that boat before.  He ran from downstream up inside the islands and stopped a little past the second island.  He floated down and I believe went up on the other side of the island, but I did not see.
